For me, Friday at the North American Convention, was an opportunity to connect with a number of friends and associates including my Area Administrator SHAPE cluster.
The convention itself kicked off this evening with the annual Anderson University service, a gathering of celebration centered mainly around music. This Gaither production was jam-packed with singing, musical performances (including by NFL player / singer Ben Utecht), and brief personal stories from Ann Smith, Mort Crim, Dr. Lauren Dungy-Poythress, and Bill Gaither). The highlight was a powerful AU choral rendition of "I Then Shall Live", a song with profound lyrics by Gloria Gaither set to the tune of Finlandia. This year's convention theme is "Celebrate Unity", and tonight's service celebrated God's Gentle Strength.

In striking contrast to tonight's biblical theme was a T-shirt message spotted in the crowd:
