Born again restaurant

This has been an interesting week as far as news stories concerning Church of God congregations and their involvement within their communities.

According to WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky, Parkland Church of God has partnered with a Baptist Church to re-open a bankrupt restaurant in their community. One's first reaction might be: "Why would churches want to get into the restaurant business?" Their plans, however, are to give back to the community, which includes providing much needed jobs. (Story Link). From what I've been able to gather these churches are in a community that really needs hope, and they believe that this is one practical way to express the love of God.

Certainly a different twist on community and social involvement, and another case to add to my ongoing reflections. I would be interested to learn more about this project, and how the church sees this as part of their overall mission.

First of all I think the fact that the congregations can work together at all is great. If they can bring jobs and new life to the community through this resturant, SWEET! So is there a vacant storefront near you that you can reclaim and renovate? [That was to all us not just you Lloyd.]

We need jobs here in rural Arkansas. We are considering starting several businesses under our nonprofit status. If we can remove the need and focus for profits maybe we can generate jobs, security, and a more stable community. I have several ideas and think it is worth looking into. Each business would be subject to the UBIT 15% tax (but I believe this is over and above all expenses, not on gross income - not sure). These businesses need to be self-sustainable to ensure a positive future for the employees. That is the goal: well-paid employees. This is a focused effort at Holistic ministry. If we can be trusted to care for the temporal needs, maybe we can be trusted to care for the eternal needs. All of this will be done to expand God's Kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven."
