The North American Convention has certainly got a number of people talking about our mission.
The question, of course, is: HOW do we move to a mission mindset and mission action?
Let me offer a few additional places to continue exploring this:
1. The latest issue of Leadership Network "Advance", an e-mail newsletter (why don't they have an RSS feed yet?!) featured a brief, but interesting article that outlined a model for understanding and measuring an externally focused church.
2. Ken Oldham shared an example of what his church is beginning to do in a post entitled "out we go".
3. I encourage you to follow "from the Bradlands", the blog of Brad Kunkel a Church of God pastor here in Central California. Without knowing Brad, his very transparent weekly journal might not make much sense, but here's some background. Brad was called to take over leadership of a newly planted church in our region, but after many changes and searching they decided to move away from the "typical" church planting model (which wasn't really working anyways) and instead take more of a missional approach to ministry. God led them to a very difficult town, Del Ray, where they are actively working to engage directly with the many people in need of God's love. Brad has a tremendous heart for ministry, and I believe there is much we can learn from following and praying for his work.

I'm reading "how" a lot here. Have you heard of the book "The Answer to How is Yes" by Peter Block? I am ashamed to say that I haven't read it yet...I just got it in a bundle from Amazon. One of my good friends recomended it to me when we were talking about the how's of missional ministry.
just read the info/editorial re:"the answer to how..." at the amazon site--looks like a good book that i'll have to read into. thanks for the reference
essentially, what i picked up from the brief description, is not the question 'how,' but 'why.'
that's what NAC focused on, and what we previously discussed as not central to the traditional value system of choG
too bad simply explaining the 'why' (that is, the Father's heart to reach the lost) is not enough to motivate the church
WHEN are we going to see the 'the church' do any of this? To be in mission, to break an old world mentality, is to realize it isn't just for missionaries, it is for you and your neighborhood. WHEN will we stop characterizing individuals in mission, ans start to see the character of the church in mission.
Just a side note, you aren't a "legit" blogger until you can use quotation marks about 5 times an entry.
